4 Woodbury Neurotoxins: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, vs. JEUVEAU

In the world of anti-aging, neurotoxins have claimed their throne as the most popular form of non-invasive aesthetic enhancement in the U.S.

You probably know the treatment simply as Botox. People use the term “Botox” to describe all wrinkle relaxers, but did you know that Botox is actually the brand name of just one of the market’s most popular neurotoxins?

Much like Jacuzzi, Zamboni, Kleenex, and Chapstick brands stole all the attention from other versions of their product, Botox isn’t the only neurotoxin kid on the block anymore. There are actually four neurotoxin brands that top the charts, so we’re going to compare Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, and JEUVEAU®. We also just so happen to offer these top 4 neurotoxins at The Med Spa here in Woodbury, MN. By the end of this read, you can determine which is best for you!

What do wrinkle relaxers have in common?

Those pesky wrinkles form on your face from a lifetime of laughter, tears, stress, and even from all that squinting you do when your contact prescription starts to change. That’s where the right neurotoxin can help restore that smooth and youthful glow.

All four leading neurotoxins are used for the same purpose: To reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They’re all FDA approved for safety, and they also all use the same active ingredient, Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT), to combat those wrinkles.

How BoNT works is, it blocks your nerves from releasing acetylcholine to the facial muscle, making the muscle relax. The relaxed muscle allows your facial skin to smooth out, making those wrinkles less visible.

Aside from performing as wrinkle relaxers, neurotoxins are also used to address some medical issues. According to Mayo Clinic, they help to reduce muscle spasms, correct lazy eyes, reduce issues with overactive sweat glands, and they even give relief to people with chronic migraines.

Let’s Compare: Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, vs. JEUVEAU®

While all four neurotoxins have the same active ingredient, the formulas vary somewhat. The variety makes each brand unique in the types of wrinkles it addresses, the areas of the face it is best to use on, and the length of time for its effectiveness to both set in and wear off.

Botox®

There’s a reason “Botox” has become synonymous with neurotoxins. It’s been around for the longest time and has had the most success. Because of its formula and its lengthier time on the market, it’s used more often than other brands for some of those medical treatments we discussed earlier. As for wrinkle relaxing, Botox is ideal for treatment in smaller areas, like around the eyes. While it can take up to two weeks for it to take maximum effect after treatment, it has been known to last up to three or four months.

Dysport®

Dysport’s formula is similar to Botox, but the proteins used in Dysport make it ideal for use on larger surfaces of skin. This means Dysport is the go-to neurotoxin for larger facial areas like the forehead. Results are also much quicker with Dysport, which can be effective within 24 hours of injection. One possible downfall, though, is that Dysport has been known to last for a shorter timeframe than Botox.

Xeomin®

The biggest difference in Xeomin’s formula is that it doesn’t use certain proteins that Botox and Dysport use. Those proteins make Botox and Dysport ineffective in patients after a while since their bodies develop antibodies against the formula. For this reason, Xeomin is a great option for long-time Botox or Dysport users who need a new solution. Also, because of its formula, Xeomin doesn’t need to be refrigerated and some patients report that injections tend to be more comfortable.

JEUVEAU®

Newest to the neurotoxin scene, Jeuveau has marketed itself as “Newtox” and has a similar formula and effectiveness as Botox. A big reason Jeuveau has made it on the map, particularly with Millennials, is that it’s much cheaper than Botox and Dysport. Some may be cautious of the neurotoxin newbie, though, because of its limited clinical trials and short period of testing time. Only time will tell how Jeuveau fares on the neurotoxin market. Until then, it’s totally safe and providing good results thus far!
